Volume 5 Indian Philosophy publication date
Jonardon and I have now been given a specific date for the publication of Classical Indian Philosophy, the book based on the podcast series we did on Indian thought: if all goes well it will come out in March 2020! And before that Medieval Philosophy should appear in September, I have already seen the page proofs.

Am really looking forward to this publication. But surely Jonardon dislikes the terms 'Classical' and 'Medieval' in the context of Indian philosophy as being too eurocentric? I agree with him!

We actually had a hard time
We actually had a hard time figuring out what to name this book. We wanted to leave scope for a further volume on later Indian thought, which ruled out just "Indian Philosophy" or something equally generic, so really we had to pick something like "Ancient" or "Classical," and "Ancient" was ruled out because we actually go pretty far into the AD centuries. Maybe "Early" but that is pretty bad in terms of marketing, makes it sound like it is before the really interesting stuff.
I don't really see why "Classical" is Eurocentric by the way. I mean, the Upanisads and Mahabharata etc are "classics" of the Indian tradition. So that was never a worry I had. My main hesitation about it was more potential confusion with the first podcast book that came out, "Classical Philosophy."
If you have a brilliant idea for an alternate title I would love to hear it, though it might be too late since OUP has started advertising the book already.
Classical Indian Philosophy
Classical Indian Philosophy is out - received my copy today, a month earlier than slated. It reads really well. Congratulations!
