Plato in Michigan
The Departments of Classical Studies and Philosophy at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, along with the Department of Philosophy at Michigan State University, Lansing, invite you to attend the first-ever regional meeting of the International Plato Society, from Oct. 4-7, 2012, on the topic of Plato's moral psychology, on the Ann Arbor Campus.
We invite papers on the nature of the soul; pleasure, pain, akrasia, egoism, the form of the good, virtue and eudaimonism, politics, eros, and psychology in general. We welcome all perspectives, from analytic approaches, to historical treatments, to questions of reception and traditions of interpretation.
Please send abstracts of no more than 500 words to SubmissionsIPS2012@gmail.com, by Friday March 30, 2012. The program committee will conduct a blind review of abstracts and participants will be notified of acceptance by Monday 30 April, 2012.
The conference will take place over the course of Friday morning through Sunday evening on the Ann Arbor Campus of the University of Michigan. The Classical Studies department oversees the largest papyrology collection in North America and the Kelsey museum of archaeology, both important components of our programs in Classics and major international attractions for visiting scholars. A reception at the Kelsey museum and an introduction to the Papyrology collection are planned for the conference.
Kenote speakers include Nicholas Smith, Rachana Kamtekar, Gabriele Cornelli, Maro Tulli, Matthew Evans, Luc Brisson, and M. M. McCabe.
